My Lite Bites

Lesson learned in the $25 Food Challenge that I was presented with about a month ago. The challenge came about from a conversation with a friend and their bad habit of eating fast food because it was cheaper. In most cases it is actually more expensive to eat out for lunch and dinner. Most importantly, it is not healthy.

For one month, I could only spend $25 dollars per week on groceries. If you have been following along, you have seen what I have been able to prepare with that budget:

  • Vegetable Stir Fry
  • Beef Stir Fry
  • Chicken w/ Roasted Vegetables
  • Spinach/Feta/Tomato Wonton Wrappers

Granted if money is tight their are things you will have to adjust to, such as eating the same meal all week. Luckily, I can do that. I started out with $100 and ended the month with $30 dollars that I kept in the envelope until I decide what I want to do with it.

What I learned from this experience:

  • Having a prepared grocery list is essential, because I can get a little crazy buying a bunch of stuff that I will throw out at the end of the week.
  • Reviewing the weekly sales ad to determine what meals I am going to make for the week.
  • Only use cash and not my debt card. Forces you to stay within the budget.
  • Most important rule: Never ever go to the store hungry. Yes, I know this but sometimes it just happens that way and I have a cart full of crap!

Next week, I start the bodybuilding challenge. I will be posting some of the things I am eating for those of you who are participating in a challenge or just looking to incorporate some of my meals into your routine.

Fitness Contest

So, last week I mentioned a fitness challenge that I was going to participate in for three months. By the way, you still have time to enter! and entry is open until the end of the month. First step is measurements. Second step is pictures. Third step is to register. That’s all I have right now. I am going to wait until the end of the contest to post pictures. I feel weird posting them now because for any weight challenge, I typically eat as much as I can and I stop going to the gym. Cheating or Not? I don’t think so because it’s the end result that I will be judged on. If you want to follow along, I will be tweeting daily about what I am eating and how I am feeling at jscorner.
